– Prepare your set-up –
You will need to download and install some programs if you want to create and add new items to House Flipper.
Unity
Download and install Unity in version 2019.4.9 supported by the game. Go to the Unity archive, scroll down to version Unity 2019.4.9, and select the one that suits your operating system. We recommend using Unity Hub, which helps you manage your Unity versions and projects. See the screenshot below:
Steam account
You need to be logged into your Steam account if you would like to upload items to Steam Workshop.
Our House Flipper Workshop Exporter tool
This tool transforms your 3D model into a game item. You can download Exporter directly from Steam. Go to the Library tab and look for the House Flipper - Workshop Exporter under the Tools category. See the screenshot below:
To use the Exporter you need to open it manually in Unity or add it as a project to Unity Hub.
1.) After installation, press Launch on the Workshop Exporter page which will open the tool’s location on your hard drive.
2.) Copy the folder location path.
3.) In Unity Hub click Add in the upper right corner (see the screenshot) and paste the copied folder location path. You should now see the Workshop Exporter on your projects list.
Your favorite 3D modeling software
We don’t limit your preferences regarding the software you feel most comfortable with. You can model your item in any software as long as your final model file comes in .fbx or .obj format (e.g. Blender).
Few things you need to keep in mind regarding your model:
- Don’t make very complicated items and don’t use big textures. This may significantly slow down the game for other players.
- Keep your model to the game scale:
– Ceilings in House Flipper are 2,75 meters high.
– Window tills for most windows are around 1.15 m high. The tallest item that will fit under them can be up to 1.1 m high.
– The smallest floor tile or wall pillar size is 0.25 m by 0.25 m.
– Placement snapping grid interval is 5 cm.
- Make sure the pivot point of your model is in a position around which you wish your item to rotate in the game. Don’t forget about the surface!
– If your model lays on a floor, set the pivot on the lowest position
– If your model hangs on a wall or ceiling, set the pivot on a spot where it touches the surface.
– Add the project to Unity –
